Responsible Chemical Management Safety (5hr)

Attending this on-site safety qualification facilitated by an NRCC certified Chemical Hygiene Officer covered the following content and safer strategies for use in the science department.  Areas of focus included: 

Chemical Hygiene Plan & Standard Operating Procedures

Chemical Lifecycle (ordering / storage / inventory management / handling / disposal)

Engineering Controls (Fume hoods, eye wash stations, drench showers, master controls)

Personal Protective Equipment (safety goggles & glasses, lab aprons, hand protection) 

Emergency response protocols (Mercury, Chemical Splash/Spill, Accidental Injury)

Fire Safety & NFPA Procedures

Global Harmonized System of Chemical Classification and Communication (GHS)

Hazard Analysis & Risk Assessment in the Laboratory (Activity selection / materials / Use of substitution safer practices)

Waste Disposal (Chemical & Biological)
